Castaldo® Silicone Molding Rubber

The advantages of Castaldo Silicone Molding Rubber are:

EASY TO WORK WITH: Castaldo Silicone Molding Rubber™ has the consistency of modeling clay or putty, which means that mold packing time is reduced to a few minutes. There is no need to cut and shape the pieces to fit the mold frame. Merely pull off a piece with your fingers and push it into the mold frame as desired.

EASY TO CUT: Molds made of Castaldo Silicone Molding Rubber are firm, yet "cut like butter".

NO RELEASE SPRAY NEEDED: Finished molds require no mold release spray. Wax patterns release easily because the rubber already contains anti-stick compounds.

HIGH SHINE FINISH: Molds made of Castaldo Silicone Molding Rubber provide waxes with an extremely shiny finish, improving the eventual finish of your castings.

HIGH TEAR STRENGTH: Castaldo Super High Strength Silicone Molding Rubber is exceptionally high in tear strength for a silicone rubber compound, meaning that molds made from it last for years and years. Castaldo® Econosil® offer good tear strength at a lower price.

CHEAPER AND EASIER THAN RTVs: Room temperature vulcanizing compounds require exact measuring and exact mixing. They have limited working times and require vacuum de-bubbling to provide usable molds.

DESCRIPTION: Castaldo Silicone Molding Rubber is provided in two sizes. Regular: strips 18" x 2 7/8" x approximately 3/8" ( 45.7 cm x 7.3 cm x approximately 6 mm ) and packaged in 5-lb. cartons ( 2.27 kg ). Double-wide: strips 18" x 5 3/4" x approximately 3/8" ( 45.7 cm x 14.5 cm x approximately 6 mm ) in boxes of 10 lbs/ 4.5 kg each.

Castaldo Super High Strength™ Silicone Molding rubber is tan/yellow in color. Castaldo® Econosil® is a brick-red color.

STORAGE: As with any unvulcanized rubber compound, store away from any source of heat and light. Unvulcanized shelf life is at least one year if properly stored.

VULCANIZATION: Vulcanize Castaldo® Silicone Molding Rubber at 330° - 350° F ( 165° -177° C ) for 15 minutes per layer.

The cure system used with Castaldo Silicone Molding Rubber is NOT compatible with the cure system used with natural rubber compounds and therefore mold frames, mold plates, models, sprue formers, etc. used with one type of rubber compound should be cleaned thoroughly with solvents before being used with the other type.

A more practical approach may be to devote certain mold frames, mold plates, etc. solely to the use of these silicone compound.

Castaldo Silicone Molding Rubber CANNOT be mixed in the same mold with Castaldo White Label®, Gold Label® or No Shrink Pink® rubbers for the above reason and also because the two types of rubber will not bond.

MOLD MAKING: Castaldo Silicone Molding Rubber is compatible with all mold making techniques including mold cutting and powder separation molds. It is particularly adaptable to the powder separation process since the parting line is so easily controlled. Merely push the model into rubber to the desired point. If not satisfied with the results, remove the model, smooth the rubber over with your finger or tool and re-insert the model.

NOTE: Castaldo Silicone Molding Rubber is strong, but not as strong as natural rubber compounds such as White Label , Gold Label and No Shrink Pink . Remember to pull gently while cutting the mold because of this difference.

BURNING IN SPRUES: Castaldo Silicone Molding Rubber cannot be burned in the usual manner to add sprues or correct details.

CAUTIONS: Vapors given off during vulcanization may produce temporary eye, nose and throat irritation among certain susceptible individuals. Use with adequate ventilation.
